We’d like to acknowledge the recent contribution from The Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. AusIMM donate to RRMH and support our Resource Minds program to help raise awareness of mental illness within the resource sector. The FIFO lifestyle can be taxing on someone’s personal relationships and home life. Long periods away from home can cause anxiety and depression, increased fatigue and effect someone’s overall emotional wellbeing. Our Resource Minds program helps to raise mental health awareness and understanding, reduce stigma, and provide relevant, practical information for workers, their families and workmates.
Sarah Hallett-Patterson is the Senior Manager of Events at AusIMM and coordinated the Open Pit Operators Conference in June 2022. The conference show cased the latest advancements in open pit mining. We are proud to be supported by the AusIMM team in helping those working in FIFO and DIDO jobs.
“Mental health challenges are too common in the mining industry, where environment and workplace factors can induce strain and contribute to psychological distress in employees. AusIMM supports programs and practices that improve mental health in the industry and is committed to working with communities and stakeholders to mitigate these factors. You can assist by donating to Rural and Remote Mental Health, which develops mental health literacy and suicide prevention training,” said Sarah.
