Members of Aboriginal communities face many challenges which can impact their health and wellbeing. An important aspect is the social and emotional wellbeing of all community members and how to develop a strong mind. 

This course is about giving you the tools to help you handle the pressures we all face in our lives.  

67% of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders aged 4 - 14 experience one or more stresses every year.
These include:
Death of a family/friend (25%)
Keeping up with school work (24%)
Agressive behaviours of others (23%)

Approximately the same number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders aged 15+ experience one or more stresses every year.
The most common are:
Death of a family/friend (28%)
Unable to get a job (10%)
Alcohol related problems (9%)

Before you were able to log in today, you would have been sent a registration email. The email included a pre-training survey. The information we gather through our training surveys helps us learn how effective the lessons were and identify areas for improvement.

If you haven’t already, we ask that you complete the survey before getting started.

Now you’re ready to get started.

  1. This course has numerous lessons and topics. We encourage you to move through the order they appear in the menu.
  2. To move between topics, you need to click on the tab ‘mark complete’, this will allow you to move forward. Once you completed a topic you will see a tick appear in the menu and ‘complete’ appear at the top of the page.
  3. We have included 3 short quizzes in this course. You need to pass each quiz to complete the course. The questions relate to what you have read, seen and heard in the respective lessons. You can attempt each quiz as many times as you need. If you’re not sure about an answer, we encourage you to go back and review the lesson.

Many of us may know someone who may by living with mental illness, struggling with suicidal thoughts, or who may have died by suicide. Despite the strengths you have, we are not immune to the challenges. If there are moments throughout training or afterwards, we remind you to take care of yourself. So if you need to take a break from this course and come back, your progress will be recorded.
